Religion?
« on: May 28, 2008, 04:16:21 PM »
Can you have Religion without compassion?   Can you have religion and be selfish?  Can you have religion and be unkind?

Replace the above questions with the word God and answer them.
Is having religion and having God the same?

I think you picked a bad time to start this thread, being as how RC just finished proving Gryph's point.  :tong:

Well, I think it  may have helped prompt the question. :sneeky:  I have heard more about "Godless Libereals" since posting on the forums than I ever had.  I am trying to figure out why people feel because they go to Church, claim a religion, or even have a political belief, it is right for them to be the only one who believes in God.  I wonder if every Republican is going to Heaven just because they are a Republican.   And are all democrats doomed for Hell in a Hand basket?

I was told a story once.

A Preacher was on a Boat in a storm with his teenage  son and one of his son's friends.  The kids fell overboard.  The precher only had one life preserver.  He had to make a choice.  He though it to the friend of the son.  WHy?  Because he knew his son was saved......and the other kid was not.

Wonder if he was a republican ......wonder if the kid was.  This story has always stuck with me and everytime  I see someone being selfish , I think of it......and the meaning behind it.

Ill say this, if I get to heaven and some of the people who seem so sure thats where they're going are there, someone better convince me real quick Im not in hell--because thats my idea of it.

Sure, you can be a Unitarian. That's the we'll go along with anything faith.

Seriously, there's a big difference between "religion" and trying to live a Christian life. The chief priests who were behind the crucifixion of Christ were very religious people.

Let God sort all that out.  Just get yourself ready.

Good topic!

I think when people look at my life they probably wouldn't say now there goes a Christian woman.  I don't do anything that really goes against the word of God I am just not uptight and too "religious".  I think it's okay to wear pants, it's okay to not have my hair in a bun and it's certainly okay to wear makeup (you wouldn't want me to not wear it).  But that doesn't change my heart and the fact that my heart is sold out for Christ.  Religion and relationship are so different.  Relationship with Christ is the most important thing and I don't think there's a mold of how people should look and so forth.  God does instruct us to love our neighbor and we should try.  But we are humans...yes even Christians make mistakes.

I think there are going to be a lot of suprised people in hell who thought they just had it down perfectly with getting all decked out in their suits on Sunday and going to church to look the part and live like the devil the rest of the week never forming that relationship with Christ.

Who will go there?

One pretty sure bet is it will be the people who love to scoff at and mock people of faith.
