State Healthcare Reforms For Uninsured Fail To Address High Percentage Of Mental Illness And Substance Use Disorders

New data indicates that more than one in four adult Americans without medical insurance have a mental illness or substance use disorder, or both. But many state healthcare initiatives intended to cover the uninsured are neglecting these conditions, according to a report by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare (National Council). The report is available at

I believe the part about substance abusers. Many aren't interested in a job because of drug testing. I wonder how many of the people hauling junk in this scrap frenzy are doing it because it beats a job and a drug test?

Drug tests can be beaten easily.
Maybe we should look at stopping the crimminalization of these addicts, allow them amnesty so we can make them well.
And every coomercial contractor I have worked for makes you drug test. When I have contracted for commercial and govt. I have had to drug tests my employees.
Even to sub-contract for satellite installs you must drug test and background check. Guess who pays for all the testing?State and federal grants to businesses and medical testing labs.
I do get a kick how people bytch about govt. intrusion in your personal life and the spending done by governmen, but yet they are the ones supporting this intrusion of privacy. Which will it be people? Get govt. out of your lives, reduce govt., reduce spending, or chase those demons in your  ideaology?

The situation might improve if we reclassified marijuana so it's use was not treated the same as cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

It's pretty easy to spot the marijuana smoker when your driving.
He's the guy doing 25mph on the freeway.
The 'tweaker' (meth user) is the guy doing 110.

And the drug most often abused in the U.S. remains, the ever popular, alcohol.

Some people are fanatical in their support for George Washington.
They practically worship at "Mount Vernon".

Sorry to hear that.
I would suggest growing your own, but that might be illegal.
