Do you like the door opened?
« on: February 11, 2009, 09:53:58 AM »
I read a article about some women that are offended by men opening the door.

What do the women on here think? Open it?  or Do it yourself?

RC, some people look for reasons to be offended.

Id venture that there are more women who still appreciate a lil old fashioned chivalry than there are those who want to feign offense if someone holds the door for them.

I open doors for women all the time and have always been thanked for it.

I totally agree with Gryph. Chivalry is not dead. If you run across one that doesnt like a door opened or a meal paid for------RUN.

I always appreciate having the door opened for me.   I have also been known to open the door for others.   I really don't keep score on the gender of the "door opener",  just notice that someone might "need a hand."

I enjoy having the door opened for me, but it doesn't bother me to open the door myself. I always open/hold a door for someone with a mobility problem, with a stroller, holding packages, small children or some other restriction. Like my mother always said, "It doesn't cost anything to be polite." :39:

I don't think most women are offended by having the door opened for them just make sure you don't break wind in front of them as you are openin' the door.

Yep.

Lots of difference between "wind break" and "break wind."

Takes a lot of pressure off.

Shew.

I agree with the ladies above. It's a nice gesture to open or hold open the door for someone approaching or behind you, or have them do it for you.

But when it comes to a man opening the door for his wife or date, it is a sweet gesture and the gentlemanly thing to do and I definitely like it.

Speaking of doors, a funny thing happened to me once at Bolling Air Force Base. I was there on business and running late when I stepped into a revolving door at the same time as a man who was standing beside me, and there we were, squeezed face to face, and just about body to body, in that section meant for one, as the door turned. I think I mumbled "I'm sorry," but he was the perfect gentleman as he replied: "Not at all. Definitely my pleasure!" Made my day!

I have to say I enjoy having the door held for me and when I see a feller close by and he blatantly doesn't hold the door for me, I get a little miffed.  I guess I expect it.  Am I spoiled?

Not in my book your not. I was raised to always do such things for a lady.

All this reminds me of something that happened to me a few years ago in Tennessee. I was on a road trip on my Harley and stopped at a convenience for a drink and a smoke. While sitting on the curb beside my bike a couple came by and started admiring my bike. They were the type I used to call "Harley walkers", you've all seen em, they have the boots, t shirts, biker wallet, you know what I mean, all the trappings but no bike. Anyway, the girl complimented my bike, so I said, why thank you ma'am. You'd have thought I had just smacked her. She proceeded to quickly inform me with a mouthful of obscenities that she was no ma'am.  I still laugh when I think about her.  :roflmao:
