SCHIPS
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:40:38 PM »
It's important to keep the SCHIPs program intact. It provides health care to little folk up to age 18 who's parents earn up to $80,000 yearly.  Much of the program is funded by the tax on cigarettes, so we need to encourage people to keep smoking. However, if you can't afford the last increase of $1.00/pack, I believe that there will be a special bailout in the stimulus program to "bailout" smokers who would otherwise suffer by having to stop smoking. This way, we can treat the smoker's "addiction" as well as supporting the SCHIPs program. It's what politicians call a "Win Win" situation.

never you mind.
I dont expect full disclosure from your sort.

In WV, it would have to be a family of NINE. Try feeding, housing, clothing, and providing health insurance for a brood that size and then come back and pretend its an absurd guideline.

Maybe a responsible person would consider such things and stop having kids when they pass the point of being able to afford to raise them.

Typical answer from a liberal. If you cant afford the kids then dont come crying to the poor taxpayers for help. NINE kids Gryph. Give us a break.

It ain't about the parents, it ain't about bein' a dem or pub and it ain't about the taxpayers. It's about the kids who had nothing to do with bein' brought into this hard sometimes cruel world.

my point, and its pitiful that I have to spell it out in such black and white terms to adults, is that Po's (actually its not his, the 80 grand bit is something that gets tossed out in the right wing talking points) little quip is the typical sort of half-info his lot tends to share with us all. Gubment help to folks making 80 grand a year! gee gollly! What he doesnt tell us is that its 80 grand for a family of nine.

I fully agree that anyone ought to have the good sense to make sure they can afford whatever number of children they bring into the world. Of couse when a liberal says that, the right wing turns it into some sort of rant on "population control".

80 grand isn't a lot for even a family of three or four kids. Leave it to the mean-spirited right to begrudge these families decent health care.

It is very irresponsible to have more kids than you can afford to raise. However, I can't begrudge the children healthcare. The kids truly are the innocent ones. I'll just continue to pay my part knowing I am doing the right thing. Who knows ? Maybe my reward is having pretty good health myself and that is something the savings couldn't buy me. You never go wrong helping those who truly need and the kids can't help themselves or what their parents have done.

Does anybody here have any friends or neighbors with nine kids? I'm talking currently raising, not nine kid families from my generation.

No...Id say families that size are very rare indeed. Which makes Po's "80 grand" comment all the more ridiculous.

The most I can think of, currently raising, is a family with 5 kids. All under the age of 8.
