What made me smile today? Looking out my back door and window at the crape myrtle tree in full bloom (dark pink), along with the rose of sharons of different sizes in shades of white, pink, and pale lavender.  My back yard is small, so it looks like a flowery bower.

Beware of the rose of sharons. Almost as bad as kudzu.

Maybe in some places, but not where I live. They do re-seed, but my back yard is so small and they're so beautiful in bloom that I don't consider it a problem to keep them under control. I cut them way back in the fall, and keep them free of the lower suckers, :action-smiley-023: so they look like small ornamental trees.

I have a place to sit in my living room that gives me a good view of them (instead of the top of my neighbor's shed).:action-smiley-023:

Well, here I am almost a year later, and the Rose of Sharon I can see to one side from my back windows is covered with big beautiful white blooms, some double blooms, and the pink ones are beginning to show a few blooms. I can see a bloom or two where the sun first hits the crape myrtle tree -- a few days of full sun and it will be an umbrella-shaped canopy of flowers. Add to that the birds I feed and the squirrels, and ... I love my little back yard!

A baby's laughter...watching birds and squirrels scurring around...

Waking up in the morning knowing I am still here!
