I think it has little to do with his passing. At the time of his tragic death, his career had already peaked, and his glory days fading quickly. I was a fan of his driving style, just found it hard to root for a Chevy.

I think it has little to do with his passing. At the time of his tragic death, his career had already peaked, and his glory days fading quickly. I was a fan of his driving style, just found it hard to root for a Chevy.

  I do know from experience those ole' small block chevys are hard to beat. The big blocks were hard to beat as well. I think Ole' Dale had one more championship in him. I think his death had a lot to do with the lessenin' of interest in nascar. He was and still is the most iconic figure in nascar. I never did get caught up in the chevy/ford/dodge thing. I can probably find something I like in all cars/trucks and bikes. I'm just a motorhead.. I will ride 'bout anything and enjoy all brands that I can get me hands on.

In my younger days I was more into drag racing than nascar. There was always an abundance of Chevys at the tracks, but I placed my wagers on the Fords and Mopars. It paid quite well, which made me like those two brands the best. Looking back, maybe I should be a Chevy fan since I made several dollars because of their presence at the track.

In my younger days I was more into drag racing than nascar. There was always an abundance of Chevys at the tracks, but I placed my wagers on the Fords and Mopars. It paid quite well, which made me like those two brands the best. Looking back, maybe I should be a Chevy fan since I made several dollars because of their presence at the track. 

Ain't drag racin' fun? I love to watch 'em 'specially the pro stock fellers where they still at least shift gears.

NASCAR has been worthless since it moved beyond actual 'stock' cars and big money really became involved - which is decades ago.

He was and still is the most iconic figure in nascar.

Unless you don't know your history and forget drivers such as Herb Thomas, Junior Johnson, 'Fireball' Roberts, Cale Yarborough, Richard Petty etc. ad infinitum. 


Besides, pedal to the metal, turn left is hardly true auto racing - especially be it NASCAR or INDY car etc. racing.

It sure is! I used to never miss a race at Bristol or Rockingham. Haven't been for a few years though. They kinda priced ole Graybeard out of the stands!

I go to Rockingham in September every year. I get free tickets to Dragstock which is a huge Pro Mod race. It is a heck of a lot of fun. Big event with many folks attending. I don't attend the top fuel races there. I will be more than happy to send you a few free tickets to Dragstock if you wanna go. I will have preferred parkin' and be glad to feed ya and give you all you want to drink. I usually have a few that meet me there and we make a long day out of it. I have not been to Bristol in a few years but I plan on goin' next year if I can. I watch the Pro Mods in at Farminton Dragway (NC) 3 of 4 times each year. They have other cars and sometimes bikes there as well.

GTO's were bad butt cars and I sure liked them. Heck I even liked the newer ones from a few years ago. I owned a few Trans Ams and always liked the Pontiacs. Good lookin' cars with a dadburn engine to back 'em up. As far as Carl goes he was dumb to admit what he did. It was obvious but never admit it to Nascar. Just made it easy for him to be the scapegoat.

I would love to come back to the Rock! There is one small, no make that big problem.  The weekend of the 11th. I'm committed to a biker get together at Camp Laurel in Rocky Gap. You should come and join us that weekend if you're free. Good riding and excellent home cooking! If you're interested let me know and I'll give you the details. The next weekend, or the 2nd, I'll be back at the camp again for a weekend hiking the Appalachian Trail. Again, you're welcome to join us for that one if you're interested. Anyway, after two weekends out of the month over at the camp my wife would murderize me if I took off another weekend to the Rock! I really appreciate the offer though. Think about coming up for the riding weekend if you can. I'll post more about it here a little later.
