Used to garden quite a bit. My parents lived next and they owned a vacant lot across the alley from their home and we gardened there. After they passed my siblings insisted on selling it, but I still had a small garden in the corner of my yard. We put a pond in there, koi and goldfish. So I moved the garden to another larger space in the yard. Grew the usual, lettuce and onions, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, occasionally corn. Now that's gone, replaced by a pool. I miss it, this will be 2 years without one.

I always have a garden.  It becomes almost a spiritual experience for me.  In Feb. when it is so cold, I am busy looking through the Gurney's and Park seed catalogs.  I always plant a variety of tomatoes, and a little of everything else I can crowd into a backyard garden.  I share with folks at work, and share with the neighbors.  I like to plant pumpkins and let the children in the family come pick out pumpkins for Haloween.  Sometimes, I even take veggies to casual acquaintances.  I have sloping yard with houses above (imagine that in WV lol) and share vegetables with the elderly man who lives above me.  Anymore, children are not used to a garden, and are totally fascinated when they visit and we go out and pick salad fixings.  Last year planted a row of potatoes and they did great.  My parents could always look at soil and sometimes say, "that would make good garden soil."  When I moved here I had learned to recognize good soil, and sure enough it was excellent for garden, trees and flowers.  Not all garden nerd...favorite summer experience is to prop my feet up on the porch and drink a big wine cooler.

No, I no longer have garden.  It is impossible for me to grow organic vegetables and I only eat organic.  Between the deer that raid the garden and me having to use pesticides,  I gave up several years ago.

Absolutely! I pity someone who has never eaten a tomato fresh from the garden, or green beans, or fresh picked corn, or........... :bananna:

I can relate to that. Almost like when you were a kid (for our "older" posters), and the Sears Wishbook came and you spent countless hours pouring over every page of a seemingly endless amount and variety of toys.

I would go over to my parents, and of course they had their seed catalogs too, and we'd look over them, planning what new variety of veggies we'd try that coming spring. Ah...those were the days.

Have to agree.  I can't wait to get back to it.  It's been a couple years.  Going to have grandson help like the children did.

I have a flower garden and small vegetable garden.  I enjoy watching it grow.  It's one more of God's miracles to witness on earth.

Been off and on gardening the past several years. Tomatoes, string beans, occasionally corn and peppers. Would prefer organic only but the only reason I have an area to garden is the farmer leaves an area for me to grow what I please in one of his fields.
It's a nice respite to work with my hands and watch the garden grow. Though as the season goes into the hot summer and the work travel increases, other yard work becomes more intense and the garden suffers. But I usually still get a crop of one sort or another and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Did you try putting human hair around your garden?  There are a couple of other natural preventitives for deer.

I grow herbs in my bed room window.  It is not as cold as it is in the living room over the air
conditioner.  In there, I am growing lettuce, onion tops from onions that were rotting, and garlic  tops from garlic that was about gone.  We had the lettuce on our bacon and tomato sandwiches the other day, and I have decided to grow radishes and baby carrots.  I think I could also grow swiss chard.  I don't get enough sun for tomatoes, but I have grown strawberries.  I don't quit just because i can't have a garden any more.  I have also grown ginger root.  It makes a beautiful folage plant.  Sometimes I grow under lights.
