Why are the old dramas on TV land popular?
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:28:58 AM »
I am a fan of the old "Gunsmokes", "Little House" "Mayberry" "Waltons"  ect. Why do you think these shows still have an appeal?

I know the answer you're fishing for, RC.  :39: Sorry I won't bite (even though I probably agree with you here) .....but they are still better than 90% of what's on now.

OK....I'll bite. I'm guessing that those shows represent a higher set of standards, a time we are nostalgic for.

They didn't rely on sex and violence to attract viewers. I guess Gunsmoke could be considered violent, but even then, good always triumphed over evil in the end. The bad guys might kick Matt's @ss once, but they always got what was coming to them.

I don't watch much television at all, period. When I do watch it, it's usually on Discovery, TLC, the Science Channel or similar.

Don't kid yourself. Matt was very sexy; Miss Kitty?? Hello? oh yeah; and one thing I disliked about Little House when it first came out was how beautiful and yes, sexy the cast was (except for Laura and Carrie- although they babed Laura up as she got older...) because I had read all the books and was so excited for the series. They took out soooo much and put a bunch of sentimental drama in its place. Sorry, I don't think we're nostalgic for these cuz they represent a simpler time. I think we like them cuz they play out life the way we WISH it would be- the one exception may be the Walton's but I'd have to do some background reading before I said it for sure.

Oh, I did watch them though... still do... those dudes were smokin..........  :heartbeat:
