Should classic cartoons be censored?
« on: March 04, 2007, 08:33:04 PM »
Has anyone noticed how the old Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry cartoons have been edited? A lot of the violent parts are gone, and characters that might be considered derogatory depictions of minorities have been removed, such as the black housekeeper in some of the Tom & Jerry episodes.

What's your view on this?

I was pretty surprised the last time I watched cartoons with my niece,  they are quite advanced for kids.  The older cartoons,  like what WY is talking about is nothing compared to the newer ones.  Hard to believe they would edit Tom and Jerry.

you cant alter the past to make it fit todays standards....by all means make new cartoons up to snuff, but dont go changing history.

It won't be long until TVLand is edited because of derogatory depictions---someone's kid was referred to as a half-breed on Gunsmoke the other night....  It's as if we're pretending the past never happened and are trying to hide the truth from our youth..

I think the new cartoons have more language and violence than the old ones,   that's why I don't understand editing older cartoons.  Does not make sense.

This would make a very interesting class for a high school or college!

Is that you? :sneeky: :roflmao:

Actually, I say, this is me....on the right, that is.
 *devilish*

Hey I love that cartoon!  That Bird is way to sneaky and always gets himself in too much trouble.  Those cartoons were great now we got Foster's home for imaginary friends and Barney. *yk* :roflmao:
