Give a tax credit for donating blood.

Blood has value.  It is a donation to a worthy cause.  Start giving tax donation credit for those who give blood.  Perhaps then the blood banks could get their quota.

The American Red Cross is making an emergency plea for help with its blood supplies. The blood on hand is less than a one day supply.

Red Cross Communications Supervisor Cheryl Gergely says it's the first time the agency has made this kind of plea in the last three years.

Gergely says the Red Cross is below a one day level for all blood types including the most critical of O-positive and O-negative. She says the emergency appeals don't come often.

"We don't like to issue emergency appeals on an ongoing basis, because it becomes a situation where people tune it out after a while. We only do that when certain parameters are met," she said.

Gergely says the Red Cross has not been meeting its collection goals and the 100 hospitals served in West Virginia and five surrounding states aren't getting the blood they've been promised.

"We are not being able to fulfill their orders at 100 percent so I'm sure they're having to make some internal changes," she said.

A number of possible reasons are cited for the shortage. Gergely says it's likely the combination of factors.

"I think the heat has a lot to do with it and school schedules, people getting back into the routine, giving blood becomes a very low priority," Gergely said.

The Red Cross is doing a number of things to get the word out including extending hours at donor centers, sending out emergency information postcards to donors and urging the general public and current blood donors to give.

I received my "gallon" pin. I get satisfaction from giving. Windwalker submits that paying for blood might work. I agree. I wonder if Bo is suggesting that government mandate giving blood? Ahhhh, government is the answer.

Sure that is what he wants a government mandate to apply to everyone except liberals because they know what is best for our lives.  Regular people according to liberals can never make a good decision unless the government is there to OK it.

But then again, liberals wouldnt participate, they would want everyone else to do it. Ya know, do as I say, not as I do. Then they would put a heavy tax on those that gave. Liberals.

Don't think too hard. You might hurt yourself.

I am suggesting that to give blood should be a voluntary election made for the love of fellow humans. Not for money.

Do you give blood Bo? Bo, do you know what a pint of blood costs when it is delivered to a patient? Would five more dollars hurt, to see that bloodbanks are full?

I do give blood. And I am listed as an organ donor. I do this freely and without material compensation.

Some people sell their organs. Maybe you should look into that, Tony, since you seem to be so desperate for that five bucks.

Naaa, at this point in my life, I dont need it. But, WW had a good idea. You are so miserable that you throw down on everything though. I bet if a liberal would have made the original post, you would have been licking it up.

Me? Miserable?

Heck, no! Why, I'm just as happy as can be!

It's you that keeps digging up dirt and spreading it all over the place.

Stinky, indeed!

BO:

Just think of the new big government agency that could be created if we were alllowed to sell our organs and blood to the highest bidder.  A good dose of capitalism never hurts to move things along.

Look at the wealth it would create, and then you could tax it for your liberal/socialist utopia.  Plus no more crazy old aunt living in the basement.

Would you be in favor of rolling back the income tax deduction for "charitable donations"?  How about the deduction for mortgage interest paid?

Junior, I'm sorry but I don't see any connection between a blood donation and a mortgage interest deduction.

But I'll answer anyway. Do not touch the mortgage interest dedcution.

Unless you want to start talking about a "flat tax"
